Girls' Games

The aim is for all girls to enjoy, participate and reach their full potential in sport.

We aim to:

  • Create an environment where pupils of all abilities are able to achieve success.
  • Encourage the belief that sport is for all.
  • Give all girls the opportunity to enjoy and compete in three main sporting activities.
  • Develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the three main sporting activities.
  • Promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.
  • Develop pupils socially, morally, culturally and spiritually.
  • Promote and develop excellence in sport through fixtures, tournaments and festivals.

All year groups are taught by a specialist games teacher.

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have one 60 minute lesson four times a week; the Wednesday lesson being used mainly for school fixtures.

The sports played are netball in the Christmas Term, hockey in the Easter Term and rounders in the Summer Term.

We arrange fixtures in the respective sports against other independent schools in the surrounding area and all girls will participate in the school swimming gala, inter house matches and sports day. Selected girls would attend festivals and tournaments.

We have extensive facilities at Westbrook Hay which are utilised for girls games including three outside netball courts, one of which is marked out for tennis, an expanse of fields for rounders, a pitch for field hockey and a 280m athletics track, along with a long jump pit and areas where other field events can take place. In addition there is an outside heated swimming pool.
