Head of Music

 

We are seeking to appoint a creative, dynamic and inspiring Head of Music. With expert subject knowledge and passion for learning, the successful candidate will be motivated to stretch and challenge our most able musicians, but also committed to maintaining a culture of inclusion, where music is enjoyed by all.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent practitioner in the classroom, demonstrating a desire to ensure that the music curriculum is engaging and exciting. In addition to this, those applying should possess excellent keyboard skills and a first-rate understanding of prep school music making. The position also requires a sound understanding of KS1, KS2 and KS3 music. The candidate should be able to develop our pupils' confidence and curiosity, enjoying the opportunity to lead and develop practice in this ambitious and successful independent school.

Applicants will also be expected to show that they have relevant educational leadership and management experience. There are no set criteria for this and potential is important. A good understanding of, and a commitment to the ethos of, an independent school will be important but it is not essential to have worked in an independent school in the past. However, it is imperative that candidates possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Staff are responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact. Staff will adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy at all times. Assistant Head (Head of Pre-Prep)

We are seeking a candidate who has the experience and confidence to organise the day to day running of the Pre-Prep at Westbrook Hay and to lead our enthusiastic and talented team.

The new Head of Pre-Prep will be an Assistant Head and an important member of the school’s leadership team, known as the 'Executive Group'. The Executive Group is energetic, hardworking and highly motivated. The ideal candidate will be expected to show the same qualities. School roll is currently at a record high and the school has recently added extra classes and is oversubscribed for Reception 2022-23.

Those applying should have the personal qualities for leadership and, under the guidance of the Head, will lead by example, commanding the respect of pupils, colleagues and parents. It is possible that the successful candidate may be seeking headship in the future and will join a school where staff development is important and ambition is encouraged. Many elements of the role are designed to enable the new Assistant Head (Head of Pre-Prep) to gain the skills and experience required to step up to headship.
