Bringing History Alive!
Our Year 1 children travelled to Mountfitchet Castle in Stansted to explore a Motte & Bailey fort and travel back in time to 1066.
The restoration of Mountfitchet Castle has taken many years and is unique as being the only wooden Motte and Bailey reconstruction on its original site anywhere in the world. The castle also houses the largest toy collection in the world with over 80,000 exhibits from the Victorian era to the 1960s.
The children had the chance to explore the Castle and roam through the Norman Village hidden behind the castle walls, wander in and out of the many houses and view the scenes, smell the log fires burning and experience the ambience of an ancient bygone lifestyle. The children found this a living history, hands-on and interactive experience.
