GCSE Options

Year 7, 2024

For families who are interested in their children joining Westbrook Hay in Year 7 in September 2024, we are hosting an assessment day on Tue – March 5, 2024. This is an opportunity for the children to experience a day at Westbrook Hay. They will have an allocated guide for the day and will take part in a range of activities and lessons, this will also include an academic assessment (CAT4) and an opportunity to meet with the Headmaster.

Parents will receive feedback on their child’s day and we anticipate being able to make offers of places shortly after the assessment day.

If you would like your child to attend, please complete the online registration form on the website and return this with a copy of their most recent school report.

Senior Provision at Westbrook Hay

Please see the letter from Mark Brain, dated September 16, 2023, announcing the expansion of the provision to include GCSEs.

Dear Parents,

The Board of Governors and the Executive Group are delighted to give you advanced notice about our decision to extend Westbrook Hay’s offering by opening a co-educational senior section to our school.

This new development will eventually see the addition of Years 9, 10 and 11, thus providing parents with the additional choice of their sons and daughters remaining at Westbrook Hay to study their GCSEs.

Our first cohort of Year 9 pupils will begin their senior journey in September 2025 becoming our first Year 10s in 2026 and our first Year 11s in 2027. This move enables pupils in and below the current Year 7 to benefit from more of an all-through education at a school in which they are confident, well known and happily achieving.

This decision has been made following parent and staff surveys, consultation with other schools, extensive market research and an increase in prospective parents looking for a nurturing, smaller, co-educational all-through school in our locality.

Whilst we will now be providing parents with the added option of their children staying to 16, we would like to emphasise our commitment to our current and future families who wish for their children to transition to senior schools at 11+ and 13+.

The purpose of extending the age range of the school is to provide an additional opportunity for our families by extending our current offering. Parents of children in the current Years 5, 6 or 7 who would like to actively discuss the option of their son or daughter staying on are invited to email me on headmaster@westbrookhay.co.uk and I will contact you to arrange a meeting together.

We will provide you all with more details, later in term, when the next stage of our communications is published.´╗┐
