The Year 7s have been competing in the ‘Chess Champions League’ since September, playing a total of 87 games. Oliver and Jake reached the final, which was zoomed into the classroom next door and the rest of Year 7 watched. Oliver made a fast start, taking a bishop in his first few moves. Jake dominated the centre of the board in the middle stages but ultimately Oliver made the numbers count. A key move Oliver executed was a fork on Jake’s king and rook - using his knight. After 40 very tense minutes Oliver emerged victorious.
