On Friday 13th June, Westbrook Hay took part in the annual U12A Cricket Festival at St. Albans. The team was made up of Years 6-7 pupils with representatives from the U13A Boys, U13A Girls, U13B Boys and U11A Boys teams. The format was 11 a-side with 8 overs per innings, there were four matches to play within each group.
In the first game, Westbrook Hay chased down Lochinver's 69 runs during the 7th over. They then set a total of 65 runs against Edge Grove, some good bowling ensured the total was not reached despite a tense finish. Just before lunch, the team reached the 52 runs of Beechwood Park with two overs to spare. The final game was against Aldwickbury, also unbeaten in their group, but Westbrook Hay's 75 runs proved to be just too many during a close game and this made it four wins from four matches for the team.
There were some brilliant moments and exceptional cricket played, all twelve members of the squad made vital contributions over the course of the day. Pictured is the team with their group winners plate, alongside them is Mark Ilott (former England Cricketer and Master in charge of Cricket at St. Albans School) and Jonathan Lee (former Westbrook Hay pupil and umpire for the day). We would like to thank St. Albans School for organising another excellent tournament and for being excellent hosts.
