House Music Competition Week has returned, with its new format that gives all pupils from Years 3-8 a chance to audition for the Finals, instead of only those chosen by the Houses. Throughout the term, pupils have enrolled in one of the six categories: Junior Singer (Years 3-5), Senior Singer (Years 6-8), Junior Group (Years 3-5), Senior Group (Years 6-8), Junior Instrumentalist (Years 3-5) and Senior Instrumentalist (Years 6-8). From Monday to Wednesday, an unprecedented number of 62 acts have competed for one of the four places in each category of the Finals.
We are grateful to our guest adjudicator, Mr Tom Young, Head of Academic Music at St Albans School who listened and gave feedback on the 8 solo vocalists, 8 groups, 8 solo instrumentalists, and a total of 39 children. All of the acts performed brilliantly and showed tremendous courage. Well done to the winners Ella, Matthew, Alice, Benjy & Jonathan, and the Year 8 band of Connor, Jack, James, Jonathan & Jotham.
All children in Years 3 - 8 take part in the house song performance. The house songs this year were inspired by bands from the 1990s. From Take That to Five, the group songs had drama, talent, live bands, costumes, and special effects. The House song has evolved into a major production! Never will a house have to pin the words on the backs of the children again!
