Last half term we started our monthly Westbrook Hay Lecture Series. The concept behind the series is to inspire our pupils, and members of the wider school community, with an opportunity to hear from people with interesting backgrounds and professions, as well as learn about their personal journeys.
On Thursday 6th October, our first talk was delivered by Ben Hosford, the Executive Producer of Secret Cinema, to an intimate gathering of around 20 pupils, parents and staff. Secret Cinema is the pioneering immersive events company that builds worlds inspired by some of our favourite films. He collaborated with Marvel Studios to produce 'Guardians of the Galaxy The Live Experience', which is currently running at Wembley Park.
It was amazing to hear how Ben's interest in drama at school, starting with helping backstage and in the technical box, has led to a career in immersive, site-specific and non-traditional theatre and events. Ben also offered insights into the creative industries, with stories from projects around the world, including the UK, China, Oman and L.A.
Congratulations to Jonah who won the inaugural 'Lecture Series Trophy' for being the most engaged pupil and asking a number of great questions! Our thanks to Ben for generously giving his time and providing such an excellent talk.
