World Book Day

World Book Day

A firm favourite in the school calendar is World Book Day.  The school places huge importance on reading.  From the Early Years, our children are read to and listened to read every day. We have reading periods within the timetable and we benefit from a well stocked library.  We aim to develop a life-long love of reading and days like this really bring all the children’s efforts to life.

In our assembly today Mrs Busfield, our Head of English, spoke about the Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane.  The children learnt how some words in the English language, are lost from the children’s dictionary, and some words are new.  Who knew that the word ‘conker’ has been removed, but emoji has been included!

We were so impressed by the effort that the children have made to select book characters from a wide range of genre of books.  Bertie, in Year 1, was dressed as David Attenborough, and his class loved reading his book and learning about the broadcaster's life.  We also have to congratulate Thomas in Year 8 who created the most inventive ‘Wordle’ costume.  One of the most wonderful parts of the day was being greeted by Cruella de Vil and Tigger, Eeyore and Winnie-the-Pooh on the school drive.  What fun we all had!
