Duke of Edinburgh Training Walk

Duke of Edinburgh Training Walk

On Saturday 11th October, 12 year 9 pupils set out on their first DofE adventure; their Bronze DofE training walk. After a few weeks of planning and preparation, the 2 groups were blessed with stunning weather as they started by heading north towards Bourne End. From there they navigated the canal paths to the far end of of Berkhamstead, before heading west back across the A41 in search of greener pastures.

Though accompanied on this occasion by 2 staff members, the group members took it in turns to navigate, which for the most part was a huge success. At around 1pm both groups met up for lunch in a lovely wooded area just west of Ashley Green. The stoves came out, and most members had a go at cooking a range of meals, ranging from pot noodles to exquisite pasta dishes!

The afternoon route proved a perfect learning experience as both groups steered a little off course, before weaving their way to Bovingdon. From there, the 22km route was completed in style, arriving back at school at 4:40pm. All pupils were exemplary; showing excellent attitude, encouraging progress with a range of skills and clearly having enjoyed the experience immensely.

We can all now look forward to an exciting 24-hour Practice Expedition and a 36-hour Qualifying Expedition in the summer. Well done to all who took part, and a huge thank you to Mr Warren, Mrs Blackwood, Mr Edwards and Mrs Bell, who made the event such a raging success.
