Aladdin

Aladdin

Aladdin, our Prep School Performance was a triumph.  With over 127 children involved, it was our most inclusive play yet.

Set in Agrabah, City of Enchantment, Aladdin (Oliver M), a kind but wily, street urchin, falls in love with beautiful Princess Jasmine (Amelie U-H), who he knows is out of his league. It just so happens, however, that the Sultan (Euan D) has declared Princess Jasmine must choose a husband within the next day. After she turns down the offers from various wealthy suitors, Aladdin - with the help of a fast-talking, magical Genie (Barnie L) -- introduces himself as wealthy suitor Prince Abdula (Eitan W). Meanwhile, evil royal advisor Jafar (Thomas C) also has his sights set on the kingdom, and tries to convince the Sultan to force Jasmine to wed him.  The cast kept the audience absolutely enthralled throughout.  The acting was superb, the singing was heart warming and the set and make-up brought the audience into Agrabah!

In our Performing Arts lessons we focus on the ensemble, group or teamwork  and Aladdin was chosen because it could showcases these. After such a long period of being unable to put on any kind of performance opportunity for the children, we were keen to put together a production that could encompass as many different talents and skills as possible. As well as give any child who wished to be part of the production an opportunity to do so, through performance, backstage, make-up, costume, mask making and any other way they felt they could make a contribution to the school show.

The children's enthusiasm, imagination and creativity that they have brought to this show is evident in what we see before us both on and off the stage.

Putting on any production is always about teamwork or togetherness. This is a value that we instilled in the children throughout rehearsals and is exemplified by the staff who come together to bring the show to life. I would like to give special thanks to our parents who helped with hair and make-up - Mrs Baker, Mrs Powell, Mrs Ralphs and Mrs Warren and the parents of the cast who have shown so much support in helping the children get ready for this production.
