Westbrook Hay Year 5 pupil, William Scott beat over 250 other Academy players from Premier League football clubs with a fabulous competition story. The subject set by the Premier League was ‘Goals’ and William, who plays for Watford FC U10s, wrote a deeply imaginative and moving story from the point of view of an old football. William’s prize was for the Premier League to visit Westbrook Hay with the incredible Premier League Trophy.
Premier League Sports Commentator, Emma Saunders ran the informative and fun-filled assembly and presented William with his very own trophy – similar to the one players or manager of the month receive. Our children in Year 3 to Year 8 were photographed with the trophy and were also able to meet and hear Dan Freedman, the author of the ‘Jamie Johnson’ series of children’s books. Dan delivered a very inspiring talk to the children explaining how he became an author, encouraging the children to read, and to write down whichever ideas they have and learn from any feedback their teachers and friends may give them – most importantly, his advice is to never give up! All the children were lucky enough to have a signed copy of one of Dan’s books – ‘Born to Play’, the prequel to the Jamie Johnson series, and for the older children, a copy of his brand new book,‘Unstoppable’.
