Rugby season starts victoriously

Colts and Senior Rugby

1st X11 vs York House

The 1st XII opened the competitive session with a win. York House were, unfortunately, a few key players down and they also played a mixed Y7 and 8 team; the combination of these two things meant that the odds were stacked strongly in Westbrook’s favour before the first whistle. The boys played some excellent running rugby, with all players contributing around the pitch at different points. While York House put up a spirited defence Westbrook’s quick ball and swift feet proved to be too much for them, with the boys running in several well worked tries. A tougher opposition next week in Heath Mount will prove a challenge.

Colts As vs Triangular tournament at Beechwood Park

We played Beechwood first and really did get our act together, scoring 7 tries to 0. Excellent running and handling was the key to our success. It would be good to recycle the ball a little more quickly, though! St Martins presented a different challenge with some very speedy runners. It took us a while to sort our tactics out but after that we were able to contain them and win by 4 to 2.

A very successful afternoon – far too many excellent performances to pick out a man of the match!
