House Music

On the final Friday of the last half of term, Westbrook Hay’s Year 3-8 House Music Competition Final took place. After an excellent Semi Final during the preceding week, four acts were picked to represent each House in the Soloist Competition Final, which would be followed by the much-anticipated House Singing Competition.

The event got underway in the Performing Arts Centre with some incredible performances. Children from Years 3 to 8 performed a wide range of songs on a variety of instruments from Violins and Saxophones, to French Horn and Flutes. We were also treated to some superb vocal performances. Special thanks to Richard Curran, Director of Music at Shiplake College, who expertly adjudicated and gave some extremely valuable feedback.

Congratulations must go to all of the individuals who performed but particularly to the following winners: Phoebe O won the Junior Vocalist section, Clara I-R won the Junior Instrumentalist section, Euan won the Senior Instrumentalist section and Elise W and Mea-Rose W won the Junior Group section.

The second half of the event involved all the children in each House performing songs written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. We experienced four fantastic performances with the children, who gave their all for their Houses. Dragon began with 'Sing' by Gary Barlow, Griffin sang 'No Matter What' by Boyzone, Phoenix sang 'Stick It To The Man' from School of Rock and Wyvern finished with 'Any Dream Will Do' from Joseph. It was an extremely close competition, but in the end the winning House was Phoenix, due to their energy, togetherness, quality of sound and overall performance. Well done to everyone involved!
